Completion: May 2014
Size: Anderson Hall – 50,800 SF, 210 beds; McFarland Hall – 37,600 SF, 139 beds
The renovation of Anderson and McFarland Residence Halls was completed in May 2014, two full months ahead of Miami’s projected schedule. The project included interior renovation of each building and exterior envelope restoration, and provided 349 beds.
AMA worked within standards established by Miami University and the Criteria Architect team to achieve an overall aesthetic update of the interiors with the addition of new materials including flooring, paint, and tile. The function of the public spaces in each residence hall was maximized, with the inclusion of floor lounges, kitchenettes, and ADA accessible restrooms.
AMA designed new and re-built secondary entry vestibules, detailed in keeping with the original Georgian Style. Historically correct detailing was also provided for renovations of the main entries, dormers, windows, and new accessible entries. Firm members worked in close collaboration with contractors to resolve technical issues on site to ensure quality solutions were achieved.
AMA was successful in providing thorough production work with uncompromised detail while meeting the project’s aggressive deadlines and budget.
